This summer called for colour, lots of colour! With a global pandemic happening I was drawn to use vivid colours even more this year! We are known for our use of texture, colour and for being very flowery- the more flowers the better. This inspirational shoot really showcases our floral style!
The real life couple modelling in the photos below were supposed to get married 5 days before this photoshoot but had to postpone due to the Covid19 pandemic and gathering restrictions. So instead of having their actual nuptials, Calgary wedding planner Madeleine, from Moments by Madeleine along with Joanna Bisley of Joanna Bisley Designs, invited the couple to be the bride and groom for an evening of creativity along the sandy shores of Barrier Lake in Kananaskis. A group of talented Calgary wedding vendors met them in Kananaskis country for a very memorable evening.
It was a warm and gorgeous summer evening in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and families were enjoying time together on the beach and swimming all around us (even if you can't tell from the photos). We kept the decor to a minimum and in a neutral palette for the table linens and place settings so that the flowers could really pop! And pop they did! The vibrant shades of tangerine, coral, raspberry, magenta pinks and peaches really stood out agains the turquoise blue of Barrier Lake. The Rocky Mountains and beautiful lakes in the area never disappoint so it's no wonder couples come from all over the world (except for this year) to be wed amongst such beauty! Located about 45 minutes from the town of Banff centre, Barrier Lake is a must see location and a perfect spot for your wedding day photos and video!
For the flower varieties I choose all of my favorite summer blooms including: coral charm peonies, peach and dark pink Italian ranunculus, summer berries yarrow, pink gomphrena, magenta celosia, Barbados spray roses, brambles (rubus), cherry caramel phlox, cosmos, spirea, snapdragons and astilbe. Most of the blooms were grown locally in Calgary or in BC. I love designing with so many different floral varieties because of the vast textures and contrast between them that I can combine to create stunning floral art pieces for your wedding day. Julia from JunoPhoto captured the evening impeccably as did Oscar from Castaño Films with his highlight video. After seeing the photos and watching the video you will want to be married in our beautiful Canadian Rockies!
