It's one of the hardest words to pronounce in the English language according to the online social platform Reddit, 4th to be exact! Anemone- pronounced uh-neh-muh-nee is difficult to pronounce but it's definitely not difficult to love! It's one of the most popular wedding flowers along with peonies, roses and ranunculus! I've dedicated an entire blog to the Marianne Panda Anemones- the white with navy centres that you can view here.
In this post I want to showcase more of the Panda anemones along with their more colourful cousins since anemones also come in shades of pink, coral, purple and red! They are available year round and can be imported when not available in Canada. For locally grown Calgary anemones the best season is summer between late June and July. They are available starting in the early spring from BC where the temperature is milder than ours in Alberta.
I know this post is supposed to feature bouquets, but I couldn't help including the photo of this sweetheart table with the Marianne Panda Anemones! It's just so perfectly romantic! This wedding took place in late November and the anemones came from South America.

This December bridal bouquet features the popular Marianne Panda Anemone.
Our bride Jenny had white and navy Marianne Panda anemones and the anemone Mistral Purple variety in her bouquet! I love the colour contrast in this bouquet!

The coral anemones featured in Madeleine's engagement bouquet were grown just outside of Calgary at Field Flower Farm! Melina and Doug grow the most spectacular wedding anemones and they are enormous when they open in the heat!

Our bride Carmen held a bouquet of peonies and Panda anemones for her early June elopement at Tunnel Mountain. See more photos from this dreamy Banff elopement and their grounded wedding arch hedge here.

The first photo was taken in my consultation studio and the second photo was taken by Minted Photography during the couple's early July engagement session at Moraine Lake. Anemones will close up in cool temperatures and it was a cool windy July evening so you can't see the anemones as well in the second image since they are closed. This anemone variety called Rarity were grown locally by Forage and Design Flowers.
This July bouquet also contains Rarity anemones grown locally by Forage + Design flower farm. They sure are gorgeous and pair nicely with Italian ranunculus and butterfly ranunculus.

These garden bouquets feature the very best locally grown Calgary blooms including peonies, ranunculus, scabiosa, nigella, yarrow and Rarity anemones. Most of these blooms were grown by Forage + Design Flower Farm.

Cleary the Panda anemones are the most popular for bridal bouquets, but with so many beautiful options available locally I'm sure we'll see more colorful anemones in weddings soon!

The collage above includes Mistral anemones that are grown locally in Calgary at Field Flower Farm. The first blooms typically start end of May and they bloom through the end of July.
The above image was found on the Flirty Fleurs website from a farm called Hyperactive Farms in Miami and shows some of the most popular anemone varieties. The ones I commonly source from my wholesalers are the Marianne and Mistral series however local growers and farmers may have other speciality varieties. It's best to check with your florist to see which varieties will be in season and available for your wedding day.
Are you planning on having anemones in your wedding? I'd love to read your comments about your favorite variety below! Please reach out if you are looking for a wedding florist for Calgary, Canmore, Banff or Lake Louise area!
