I'm sure we can all agree that 2020 was not your average year and with that came changes to weddings as we saw couples fully embrace intimate weddings!
I love small, intimate weddings that are personalized to the couple and of course filled with beautiful florals! Weddings in 2020 definitely became more intimate and micro affairs. All of our weddings this past summer were small weddings with 50 guests or less due to provincial restrictions on gatherings. Many couples chose to host micro weddings which were even smaller with less than 20 guests.
Lake Louise was the destination of choice for many of our couples in 2020. Located in the Canadian Rockies, it's known for its stunning turquoise lake and the Victoria Glacier with incredible mountain vistas! It also has great hiking and skiing trails and of course is home to the iconic, luxury hotel- the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Together with Banff wedding planner Moments by Madeleine, we offered our couples an intimate wedding package that included the ceremony space, photography coverage, planning, rentals and florals. I'm happy to announce that we've carried on these micro wedding packages into 2021! Learn more here.
Below are photos from four couples who chose to host micro destination weddings at the picturesque Lake Louise. All of these couples had less than 20 guests in attendance making them beautiful intimate affairs shared with only their very closest family and friends in the heart of the Canadian Rockies!
Tara + Adam
Tara + Adam planned a destination wedding to Lake Louise in August 2019 before we heard anything about the current pandemic. The couple travelled from the UK with their closest family and friends to exchange vows along the shorelines of the famous lake. Their wedding planner, Moments by Madeleine, helped them plan a stress free wedding from across the pond! We used the bride's favorite bloom, the toffee rose, in all of the arrangements along with plum, mauve and blush. I used a gorgeous Shirley Poppy called "Amazing Grey" that just happened to be in bloom from a local grower for an extra special touch in Tara's bouquet. This poppy has a very short growing season and it complimented their wedding colour palette perfectly. We created a beautiful floral swag to adorn the triangle arch that was custom made by JM Wilkinson Rentals and looked beautiful with Lake Louise, the Victoria Glacier and Rocky Mountains in the background. The couple, along with their wedding photographer, Kadie Hummel, also visited the more famous Moraine Lake for bridal portraits of the newlyweds.
Kaitlyn + Scott
Kaitlyn + Scott planned their micro wedding during COVID19 with the assistance of their wedding planner Moments by Madeleine. Many of the flowers used were sourced from local Calgary growers in their chosen colour palette. I even used a few flowers from my own cutting garden in Kait's bouquet {the amaranthus, strawflowers and feather celosia}! All of the ceremony florals were repurposed for their intimate dinner in the Sun Room. The harlow stands were used as elevated centerpieces and really made a grand impression when guests walked into the room!
Megan + Justin
Megan and Justin also planned their micro wedding during the pandemic and got married on the terrace of the Chateau Lake Louise at the end of August. I was given their colour palette of white, toffee and raspberry and had a lot of fun designing with this unique colour palette. I was able to source locally grown Sahara Rudbeckia which has a really interesting shape and they matched the imported Toffee roses perfectly. Scabiosa, orach, cosmos, Queen Anne's lace and copper amaranthus were also in season and grown locally in Calgary! The ceremony florals also served double duty and were used as centerpieces in the Sun Room for the reception.
Breanne + Spencer
Breanne + Spencer had a beautiful mid August wedding with their outdoor ceremony overlooking Lake Louise. Planned by Moments by Madeleine, it was actually our first of three micro weddings at Lake Louise in 2020. I especially loved the caramel cherry phlox and plum dahlias in Breanne's bouquet that were both sourced from a Calgary flower farm. All of the ceremony flowers were reused in the Sun Room for the dinner. The arch swag was laid as a centerpiece in the center of the head table and the chair flowers were added to rental bud vases and placed as centerepiece on the round guest tables.
If you are planning an intimate wedding in the Canadian Rockies we'd love for you to get in touch to see how we can help make it extra special for you and your guests!

Lisa Hodges - Hi there, We have just gotten engaged and are slowly trying to dip our toe into the planning pool to see if our wishes are realistic and match our budget. We would like to get married in June 2022 and will be having a small wedding with only immediate family (6 guests) and would like to get married at Lake Louise. From there, we are not sure of what the process, options, and next steps would be ( or if our wishes are even a realistic possibility). We aren't big partiers/dancers and don't drink but would be interested in a family dinner/reception after our wedding (no dj, dance floor, or bar needed). Would this type of wedding be something you can help to plan? We look forward to hearing from you and any advice or direction you can give us would be so appreciated! Thanks for your time :)
